Meet Tom — our Director of Strategy at SysGroup.

What was your very first job?

Technically my first job was a mushroom picker. Though I never actually did any mushroom picking — I was really looking forward to it — but I received my P45 before my first day, which I thought was pretty funny: getting fired before they’d even met me.

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?

Being a private ski guide for a day would be pretty fantastic.

If you had to give a TED Talk on something random, what would it be?

The virtues of a good long walk in the countryside without your phone.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning here?

How best to augment this organisation and its employees using AI.

If you could invent one office perk, what would it be?

A fully fledged kitchen in the office to whip up proper meals for lunch.

What’s the most exciting part of your role at SysGroup?

Being able to lead SysGroup in its AI transformation — it’s only ever going to happen once.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

Exercise in any form, which normally manifests itself as running.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Good ideas are cheap and readily available. Execution of ideas is what matters beyond everything else.
